Films about anorexia influenced by celebrities or anorexia in general please? I have to do some coursework at college about how celebrities influence anorexia and low self esteem and I need to use examples from films can anyone give me some ideas please? I cant think of any films I've ever seen or heard of that deal with these issues. Thanks to anyone who answers :) |
I don't think you'll find a film about anorexia influenced by celebrities, but I'm sure there's plenty about anorexia.
I'm sure a quick search on Google with "films about anorexia" will give you some results. Although it doesn't help, I remember seeing a TV movie a long time ago about a girl who dies from anorexia. It happens when she is walking away from her friend during an argument and is struck by a car - she is killed and the girls parents blame her friend for it, only until the doctor says she died as a result of anorexia and not from the car. No idea what it's called though :( Also wasn't there a film with Christian Bale about it? I remember seeing pictures of him ridiculously skinny... might not have been about anorexia but you never know :-/ |
Are there any celebrities these days who definately have Anorexia Nervosa and could die from it ? I was just watching a 1980 or 81 interview with Karen Carpenter just before she died, and I was wondering if anyone well-known currently had this terrible mental illness ? |
Allegra Versace
She's very ill :( |
Hi just a question regarding people with anorexia and how fast they lose weight.? i was just wondering (due to a friends teenager daughter problem) how fast do anorexics get to the point where they are really skinny?
a friend has a daughter who was a size 14,she is now a size 10/12,so far from a skeleton, but she barely eats (i imagine less than 600 cal a day), no doctor agrees that she has a problem because her bmi is still normal to overweight . it toke her 3 months to get from size 14 to 10, she doe not believe she has a problem because the is not loosing weigh fast like the celebrities that have anorexia how long till she looses more weight? |
With anorexia, it's difficult to predict how quickly someone will lose weight. At first the weight will come off very quickly, but as time goes by it will slow down, sometimes to a standstill. This is because your metabolism slows down and your body goes into starvation mode (where your body will try to store any food you ingest into fat to keep you alive).
I would say that if she keeps eating less than 600kcal per day, the weight will keep slowly coming off (perhaps 0.5 to 1lb per week), and eventually she will become a "skeleton". It is very important that she gets help for her problem before it gets a lot worse, so I would tell your friend to keep taking her to the doctors until they provide help. Be obstinate. It shouldn't matter that her weight is still high; the doctors should refer her to a specialist (an adolescent psychiatrist or similar) who can halt the problem before it spirals out of control. The sooner, the better.
I really hope this is helpful, and I hope that your friend's daughter can get help for her problem :) |
Is the media to blame for anorexia in teens? We all hear of this "trend" growing at the moment that being skinny is a must. There are a lot of anorexic teenagers and it may be easy to see where they get there influence pro-anorexic websites, constant competition from their friends and school mates and the new scelebrity culture (extremely skinny celebs).
But is the media really to blame for young girls wanting to be super skinny and in the long run ending up with permanent health defects and even in some cases dying or is it the fault of celebrities or teens and guyren not being educated on the effects of self-starvation.
What do you think? |
| I don't think it's the media their only bringing this subject to light to stop it i think or make people notice how series this actually is, i think it is the skinny models and celebritys doing this. |
Why do all these celebrities have horrible lives? I've never seen a celebrity well... happy. In the beginning they seem fine but after while their lives seems tragic. With all this fame and money...the cant even have a lasting marriage. They are always on drugs, they are always depressed. Going crazy, never satisfied with their looks (anorexia). Is it me or is fame and fortune not really....glamorous? |
Your Answer:
Hey, because people don't realize that money doesn't help a bad situation; in fact, it can make it worse in a huge way. When people are depressed lonely and insecure money just makes more of the bad stuff available for abuse. When you can't handle life, you abuse beer on a daily bases, win the lottery and start spending money; you'll be happy for a little while. Then you'll spend your money outrageously, probably find other outlets like more expensive alcohol and even drugs and then you'll be at the bottom a lot faster |
Why are people so fascinated with anorexia? Why are some celebrities only famous for not eating? Why do people care so much. |
| Because it's so unnatural...I mean, think about it, anorexia is a psychological disease that only those of first world countries can have. There is a plethora of food to eat, and a person is so messed up that they go against their natural cravings and don't eat until they literally look like a human skeleton? That takes a lot of willpower...control or to some, lack of control. Come on! It's fascinating. |
Why do celebrities think they must be skinny to be accepted? I was very sad, when doing a research about anorexia and saw Mary Kate Olsen so skinny, I grew up with these twins , I still remember then in that show where they were just babies, Hilary Duff new look also scaried me, she is so sweet.
I mean USA is the fattest country in the world so why do they think they must look like that to be liked? |
| Because they are not thinking for themselves. There agents are. |
Young Female Teenagers and the problem with anorexia. Who is to blame? Is the pressure from the media for celebrities to be thin, causing young femele teenagers to become anorexic by trying to look like their celebrity idols?
Is the media to blame!? |
| Yes media is to blame, especially Hollywood film and Hollywood celebrates. |
Anorexia: Lifestyle or disorder? And, what do you think about pro-ana websites? I think it's horrible, and makes its victims look unattractive and even repulsively thin :]. Calling it a "lifestyle", IMO, is just an excuse to cover up the damage it can do to a person mentally and physically.
As for pro-ana and -mia groups, I think they should be removed from Facebook and similar sites. I've visited some, and the people there actively work to keep eachother anorexic with photographs of overly-thin celebrities and sufferers of ana, and tips on how to stay ana.
...But that's just my opinion, and I'd like to hear yours <3. |
| i SUFFER with anorexia. you are 100% right. actually, you hit the nail on the head with this one. pro-ana sites are horrible, although i admit to having a myspace just for connecting with other people with anorexia. i'll tell you my story- the media wasn't the cause for my disease, no it wasn't any particular celebrity i wanted to look like. i've always been a thin girl, but always a perfectionist and a little self concious. right there are the warning signs, but i didn't know that. i ate what i wanted to eat when i wanted to eat, and i didn't care. Up until i was assigned to do a project about Anorexia two years ago, i had no idea what it really was. i googled and googled for hours and came across pro-ana sites. Every single picture, quote, and message sent across was triggering. Eight then and there, i beleived every single word the website was telling me. "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." "I had a whole in my heart, so i threw away my plate, cause nothing filled me up no matter what i ate." Things like that. I became so interested, but then so self concious because i didn't look like the girls in the "thinsporation" pictures. The next day i remember i didn't eat. I didn't eat the day after that either. Every single day after that i restricted how many calories i consumed and pushed my exercising to the limit. It was like i was literally brainwashed and couldn't do anything about it. I even liked the hunger pains in my stomach; i took it as a sing of fat leaving my body. By the time i finished my project, this disease took over my life. Looking back, i am so surprised, and it really can happen to anyone. Pro-ana and pro-mia websites are NOT ok. I sitll look at tips and tricks, but not as often. I'm kind of in "self-recovery." It is working, just not that great. So anyway, yes you are definitely right... actually i might go delete my myspace. It's horrible, and some people even teach other girls how to BECOME anorexic. i dont understand why you would wish that upon someone. For everyone who refers to anorexia as a lifestyle, they are too weak to actually admit to knowing it is a problem. Ugh sorry most of this was pointless, i'm just so bored & babysitting until 11:00. Haha |
